Hedge funds and the financial market

Hedge funds are the private investment funds that are open to limited range of investors and these are permitted by regulators to undertake a number of activities than the regular investment funds. Hedge funds are also known to pay performance fees to its investment managers.
Usually hedge funds are known to invest in a broad range of investments and these investments may range from shares, debt, commodities and even works of art. But each of these hedge funds will ultimately decide where to invest the money and will usually develop their own set of investing strategies. These companies get their name from the fact that these companies often seek to offset potential losses in the principal markets by hedging their investments using many methods like short selling.
What is meant by the hedge is that investment that is often taken in order to reduce or cancel out the risk that can be brought in by one investment. Hedging on the other hand is a type of investing strategy that will reduce the company’s exposure to the unwanted business risk. Right now, the term hedge fund is loosely used and this can be used refer to many funds as well that do not hedge their investments. Hedge funds that can be observed in the market right now are usually open to limited number of professional or wealthy investors or professionals. When they are limited than this will provide them an exemption in many jurisdictions from the regulations that will govern short selling, use of derivative contracts, leverage, fee structures and the liquidity of investments in the funds. Hedge funds usually dominate some parts of the market, like the specialty markets. Hedge funds assets can also run into the billions.
